THE LIVING THREADS OF VERLET.
La Botanica gladly supports clothing brands that belong to the SLOW FASHION, so we are pleased to present the VERLET brand to our readers. Behind the word combination SLOW FASHION hides a reference to ancient technology in the production of fabrics; high quality, which implies the ability to wear clothes made by human hands for many years, and in the brand VERLET - even bright, colorful colors that are a real top this season.
VERLET, founded by Yelena Granzha uses only 100% natural handmade fabrics in the "ikat" technique: cotton, silk and silk velvet. To make 100 meters of such fabric it takes at least a month. The width of the fabric can be only from 45 to 65 centimeters, and it turns out only 8-10 pieces.
How to create a fabric “ikat”, a technique known from the 6th century and distributed in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
1. First, the artist thinks up a pattern and marks it on the threads.
2. Then the master takes the thread and dyes it by hand in natural dyes, color by color, starting with the lightest.
3. Dyeing fabrics is a long process. The threads are "reserved," that is, protected by tying each time they are dyed so that the colors don't mix.
4. After dyeing and drying, the threads are woven on the loom.
The inside and "face" of our fabrics are identical - precisely because the threads were first dyed. On a normal factory fabric, you see a "print" - a machine-drawn pattern on top of the finished fabric. All this fabrics never are the same, each time the pattern and shades are slightly different.
